A Few Green Leaves, is my second Barbara Pym novel and after reading my second Pym novel, I’m telling everyone I know, I want them all. I’ve given both novels to my mother to read. I’m telling everyone to read Barbara Pym.
Some smile and nod and ignore, but Mom, has packed the novels into her knitting bag – a sure sign she will read the books.
I have a nasty habit to make notes in the novels that I read and intrigue me – both novels are covered in notes.
Without giving much away, I must say that Ms Pym has a way of combining sorrow and laughter that is not offensive. She has the ability to be reflective and not at all boring. It amazes me to read her novels, not really wanting to finish them and not wanting to put them down.
The story lines are so simple yet, I found myself wanting to know more about her characters. Ms Pym, has once again raised my faith in writing and the hope that the very ordinary in life is really the very extraordinary.
I regret, very much regret that I have met Ms Pym so late in my life.
I also will try my best to stop skipping church service to read her novels.
